Primary Ministry Focus Partnering with Italian church
leaders in church planting
The People The Catholic church continues to be central to the
identity and spiritual security of most Italians. Different
worldviews tend to be greeted with skepticism. Those who experience
new birth in Christ identify with the fact that many of their
countrymen do not know Christ personally.
Major Challenges Developing trust with pastors who have seen
many missionaries and programs come and go with little success;
transferring local church leadership to godly, capable Italian
leaders; providing theological training for Italian men who work and
minister full time.
Prayer Focus Pray that God would allow us to be effective
partners with Italian church leaders, training them well and then
involving them from the beginning in planting and developing new
churches. |

Education Tim: A.A. in humanities, 1980, Ocean
County College, Toms River, New Jersey; B.A. in Bible theology,
1980, Moody Bible Institute, Chicago; M.Div., 1983, Denver Seminary,
Colorado; Marcia: B.A. in Bible theology, Moody Bible
Institute.
Appointed July 1983
Home Churches Forked River Baptist Church, New Jersey (the
Monahans helped establish); Tim: Jackson Baptist Church, New
Jersey; Marcia: Milaca Evangelical Free Church, Minnesota
Primary Ministry Focus Leadership training
and church planting focused on creating a unified movement of
evangelical Italian churches.
The People The Monahans minister to Neapolitans from the
Naples region in their church planting work, and to Italians from
all over Italy in leadership training. Generally, the leaders they
train are pastors, elders and deacons of local churches; however,
missionaries from other agencies sometimes take the training.
Major Challenges To maintain spiritual vitality while
endeavoring to help Italians maintain good relationships in and
between the churches; the lack of trust expressed by the Italian
people often hampers unity and collaboration.
Prayer Focus Most members of evangelical churches are
relatively new believers who come from a culture with belief systems
at variance with the Word of God. Pray that the believers will
mature, and that leaders will lead with humility. |
